Pure Magnesium Oxide Powder can increase the temperature of liquids upon contact; therefore, the recommended serving MUST be mixed into at least 6 oz. of cold liquid to neutralize this reaction prior to ingestion.

        Cheap, safe, and effective laxative

        I use magnesium oxide daily as an osmotic laxative. 1000mg per day elemental magnesium works just as well as the standard dose of Miralax I used to take, but is much safer and cheaper. (Regular Miralax use can cause health issues like hyperoxaluria and kidney issues).

        Magnesium oxide is not well absorbed (studies put it as only about 20% as effective as magnesium citrate as a supplement), so it makes a better laxative than a supplement. My blood magnesium tested towards the lower end of the reference range even taking 1000mg per day of elemental magnesium from this magnesium oxide.

        Magnesium oxide is quite alkaline, so it will also act as an antacid, which may or may not be desireable. I take mine with lemon juice to neutralize it.
